Since 2023, Marsha Lederman, in her Globe and Mail columns, has been reflecting on the October 7th attacks on Israeli citizens, the deadly war in Gaza, and rising antisemitism around the world. The work collected in this book captures the first year of the war, with new contextual writing and reflections, as well as some earlier writing that deals with Jewish identity. In her writing about Israel and Gaza, Marsha searches for complexities beyond the headlines, making room for the reader to be conflicted, grieving, angry and unsure, and is with them through that process as she, like all of us, grapples with a new reality.
